Fogel whipping it out for the first time on his new bike!

Here are some words from Keith Scott about the Banshee Scythe, the designer of the frame.

Scythe
I designed the Scythe to be a real workhorse of a frame; to be a favorite amongst the chainsaw wielding trail builders and core freeride guys who ride their bikes MORE, and clean them LESS. Basically design and build a frame that was all about reliability and strength in simplicity, whilst also achieving excellent performance. The frame is tough and durable, and requires minimal maintenance... it just plain works, and will keep working! I spent enough time riding Whistler and the North Shore mountains to know that having a bike that can get the most out of both places can be tough and that's why I designed it to have adjustable travel and geometry. The scythe is a very versatile freeride bike.

Not even the same suspension design as a Devinci Wilson, the Scythe is a Single Pivot, the Wilson is a Horst Link. You may want to look a little closer before commenting, it makes you look ignorant.

Go and Ride , amigo ..............

 Those are DH tires?
I run them on my XC/trail bike(I'm fat and ride funny... Can not handle the average racer tire). I love the rear once it's been worn out a bit... otherwise the thing wont budge on tacky dirt!

I've thrown those Prowlers on my DJ/"walk up" bike and love them, but only for the fast stuff!
Oh, most inexpensive quality tire available locally.

His comment was 'looks like' pinhead, not 'same design'. However, I am impressed you managed to look up the word 'ignorant' in the dictionary, then spell it correctly here.

Thanks for doing a wana-be burn out in an area that bicyclist are already hated in. Fantastic.
  • 3 0
Granted the sarcastic tone may be a bit much but I agree in principle. Everyone has to share and doing your best not to angry everyone else is definetly the higher road to take. No one likes it when a group of MX riders purposely chew up an entire section of trail just because they can. I don't want to earn the stereotype that we are inconsiderate destroyers of land.
  • 2 2
I think the human population should just be exterminated. That'd fix all of the world's problems, especially the one about 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 % of the world's land being 'destroyed' by bikers. Hate on industrialized nations and cars before you hate on bikes and 'burning out'.
  • 8 2
It's not about land being 'destroyed', it's about *access* to the .000000000001% of open spaces left. If you've been outta the US then you might know how developed most other countries are. The wilderness parks we have to ride in are a HUGE luxury. If you act like a disrespectful fool on public land, then said land gets closed for everyone. Having grown up in the Bay Area and seen all the good trails shut down, all I can say is that a little consideration to the other trail users goes a long freakin' way. I'm planning on riding my MTB until I die and it def. pisses me off when spoiled little groms on DH bikes / motos / ATVs / 4x4s act like they own everything.
  • 7 2
haha chill out dudes it was a 4 foot long tiny burn out no animals or vegetation was hurt
  • 6 1
That part was also filmed when there was nobody else around, and the small burn mark was stomped back down before leaving. (Did I also mention that through filming we picked up all trash we saw on the trail? and repaired and damage to trails we saw)
  • 3 4
I've been riding bikes longer than most of you guys have been alive. (Besides scriz)
SC is a on a fine line. The locals hate us, motorcyclists hate us, road bikers hate us. But we got groms that still burn out on the side of the road, fly out of the trail head onto the road, drop trou and pee in the bushes right next to the road. I mean really?! Trails are getting bulldozed on a monthly basis now in that area.
Dont even bother responding. It doesnt matter what you say.
  • 4 4
The problem is, is that all of these videos and photos are posted of the same couple of places, none of which are legal. People doing stupid things on illegal land and illegal trails and calling tons of media attention to them, along with pissing off the locals as well as the local authorities. Places to ride are few and far between in this neck of the woods, and those making a living or claiming publicity for these video and photo ops have a solid hand in destroying what little access we have to these places. Keep up the great work on advertising one of the last great places to ride in the Bay Area, guys. You're destroying it for us all.
  • 7 4
They are the locals though, They built those trails.
  • 2 5
 Ha, hahahahaha, hahahahahahahahahaha
  • 6 2
 u guys are idiots
  • 3 3
I obviously have no clue what I am talking about so just ignore that last post. HAHA!
  • 3 2
im not callin u an idiot kona
  • 1 1
oh alright fasho man! I know you guy built those trails though. Its all good if you blow them up your your trails.
  • 4 3
Those trails have been around for years. There is no way your 19 year old ass built them.
  • 5 2
no i didnt build them. im just saying you are over reacting over a little burnout its really no big deal dude. chill out
  • 6 5
You, along with others, don't seem to see the bigger picture here. "little burnouts" that happen more than never call attention to places that are already illegal. You're bringing attention to a place that doesn't need any more legal authorities brought in.

Furthermore, no matter who you are as an individual, all mountain bikers in this area are grouped together and trust me when I say that the city and the State already view us as wreckless, speed demons, destroyers of public and private land, poachers, and generally speaking an unruly bunch of people. All you've done is add to that stigma that was placed on us long, long ago.

Sure, you're catching the butt-end of this for the moment, and yes, you are to blame for this instance. But anyone doing anything like this is ultimately to blame, along with people who post photos, video, maps, locations, youtube movies, invite a million of their friends, get shuttled by their mommies, and shuttle themselves with 9 bikes hanging over the tailgate while they fly up the highway.

Just remember you're not the only one, man. And when certain people make a strong effort to keep as little attention on places like this as possible, you wreck it. That's all.
  • 7 4
prettydouche and motormonkey... you are spodes and hypocrites. shut up
  • 3 5
You obviously have no clue who I nor Motormonkey are. If you did you'd know that the term hypocrite doesn't apply to either one of us. And I'm not even going to fire back about your "spode" comment seeing as it's obviously some made up word you came up with while poaching illegal trails and posting videos about it for all to see, thus furthering the popularity of as well as broadcasting your ignorance on a sensitive trail network.

Unless you can either add something constructive to this conversation, or explain how videos like this are beneficial to the sport we all love so much and getting trails like these made legal, you may want to consider walking away before making yourself look more foolish.
  • 3 4
haha mike just shit all over you..
  • 4 1
We live here, we know how this shit goes down.... you don't live here.... get over it
  • 4 1
Yeah see I knew what I was saying was right...I may not live there but I know that the locals know what shit goes on and they are their trails after all.
  • 3 4
I know for a fact that prettym1k3 has done more trail work hours on the said trails than any one of these kids. Im not talking about building jumps. I am talking about building burms, benching trails, building bridges that all make the trails ride-a-ble year round. Almost all the bay area trails are kept in good condition because of the 20-30 guys that work deep into the night to make the what they are today.

Dont let these 16-19 year old rich kids that have everything paid for tell you otherwise. Cause there is no way a 18 year old kid can afford a bran new DH rig that retails for over 6K, even if he works at the shop and gets everything for cost. On top of the 30k+ truck he drives around.
  • 6 1
haha ur an idiot its an article about the new bike that he just got from his sponsors for killin it. jack has a job, goes to college and makes time to ride his bike. if you want to hate on the next generation of riders do it. but dont talk shit on a good article about a kid coming up and getting nice stuff from his sponsors. and how could they have dug as much as you they havent been around as long as you, that doesnt mean they dont spend as much time a day digging as you.
  • 6 1
and he drives a ford ranger.....not a 30000 dollar car
  • 5 2
Yo motormonkey, you're a dumbass bastard just going off assumptions... If you knew anything, anything at all about what we do you would zip it. Did I see your sorry ass chainsawing down tree's this week? Hell no I didn't.... So get over yourself.... F*ckin Valleys god damn
  • 3 8
flag prettym1k3 (May 14, 2010 at 15:03) (Below Threshold)
So, you were on a posted illegal trail, on State property, with a chainsaw, cutting down trees? Genius.

Proving your immaturity impeccably well there, JB. Calling someone a "dumbass bastard". Calling people "Valleys". Grow up, dude. You thinking that you can assume you know anything about anyone based upon where they may or may not even live is no different than me assuming you're a pot-smoking filthy and unkempt hippie with dreadlocks from Santa Cruz who probably hasn't paid his rent in over 6 months because he's too busy "studying" agriculture at UCSC while working at Whole Foods and riding his fixie. So lay off, man.

You've repeatedly showed your inability to carry on a conversation and back up your opinion without name calling, cursing, or any such douchebaggery. So go do your trail work, get off your high horse, and go ride your bike. We disagree with the attention you guys are bringing to these trails. So be it. That's our opinion. And it's your opinion that you're doing a great deal of work by chopping down trees with a chainsaw and continuing to post on Pinkbike making all the mountain bikers in the area look like inconsiderate pricks. So keep up the good work. You're doing a great job.
  • 7 1
You need to go outside and ride your bike
  • 7 0
You're the one making all of the local mountain bikers look like 'inconsiderate pricks'. Every single time there's a post on Pinkbike's front page having to deal with Santa Cruz, you guys get butt hurt about something and rage in the comments. Chill out. I don't know you and I'm sure the others in this conversation don't know you, I'd be surprised if you, prettym1k3, knew any of the people you were talking to in this conversation either other than motormonkeyr6. What give you the right to pass judgment on any one in the videos, pictures or in the comments? Your elitist mentality is lame and getting old. Congrats, you're older than us. Want a medal? Congrats, you might have been riding these trails before anyone else. Would you like another medal? You guys need to get over yourselves, please.
Your posts and comments about how this draws people to Santa Cruz are pure bullshit. Does Justin ever post the location of anything he ever shoots on Pinkbike? No. Was there any mention about how the trails are illegal and are in Santa Cruz prior to your posts? No. You guys mentioned it. You guys started it just like you guys always start bullshit about this. Just shut up, seriously.
  • 4 0
 Well said Pete, well said.
  • 3 5
I've never once passed judgment on anyone. I've not once called anyone a "spode" or a dumbass or anything else. I'm simply passing along the once-again and repeatedly noted fact that this is continuing to bring publicity to an illegal trail network, named or not. A network we all, obviously, enjoy. Why would you risk it? For a few minutes of fame in a website? That just isn't worth it.

All it takes it for one ranger to pop onto a place like Pinkbike or any other website, see tons of videos, photos, or posts about chopping down trees with chainsaws and enforcement will go up and up. You lose. I lose. We all lose. Tickets, citations, trespassing charges, damage to state property. You name it. The rangers I've spoken with on different occasions have all said the same thing.

That, right there, is the concern here. Nothing more, nothing less. If you think that this publicity is doing the trail network that some people have worked hard to get open any good, you're sorely mistaken.

I'm calling it quits on this now. You don't have to agree with me, but you can't deny that this does this network no good. Rangers are familiar with everything that is built, and everything that changes in these trails. They know names, places, locations... And I believe you'll see this place get 100% shut down and closed off if stuff like this continues.
  • 4 0
 valleys...
  • 1 3
Go see what the rangers did about a week ago. Then tell me I'm wrong.
  • 5 0
I blame valleys and the idiots building random ladders on popular trails
  • 1 1
Certainly that had a lot to do with it. People building to close to places with far-too easy access. Regardless, this was a long time coming. But you can't honestly think that everyone who lives near the ocean is some perfect example of a mountain biker with the utmost respect. There are idiots are both sides of the hill.

why would they choose the RockShox Boxxer Team insteed of the World cup?
  • 1 0
as he said he wanted is to be a workhorse bike and coil is better then air if you dont have a team mechanic working on it before every race
